When Can You Get a Motorcycle License in Florida?

To get a ‘Motorcycle Only’ or motorcycle endorsement in Florida you have to be at least 16 years of age. If you are under 18, you also must have held a learner’s license for at least one year with no traffic convictions. If you are under the age of 16, you may not operate or be licensed to operate a moped, motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, motorized scooter or electric helper-motor bicycle in the state of Florida.

How Much is A Motorcycle License in Florida?

First, you will need to obtain a Class E license which costs $48.00 either new or as a renewal. The endorsement fee is then $7.00. The price for a ‘Motorcycle Only’ license costs $48.00. Please note, if you get your license from a tax collector office, there is an additional $6.25 service fee.

You will also have to pay for the Basic Rider Course or Basic Rider Course Updated motorcycle safety course. Although these are certified by the state, they are run by private schools, which means that the price for these courses will vary. Generally speaking, you can expect to pay between $100.00- $400.00 for the course depending on what’s included in the training, the nature of the facility and whether or not it provides a test-pass guarantee.

What Are The Steps To Obtaining a Motorcycle License in Florida?

First, you will need to have a valid ‘Class E’ operator’s driver’s license. You then need to receive a course completion card and pass waiver status from either the Basic Rider Course Updated or Basic Rider Course from an authorized Florida Rider Training Program. These courses teach essential practices and strategies for managing various riding environments and preventing accidents. If you hold a motorcycle license from another state (excluding Alabama) you can opt out of this requirement. Finally, you need to visit a tax collector office or a driver license office, give the staff your proper ID and pay the required endorsement fee. If you wait for longer than a year, you will have to complete a Rider Skills Test with a Florida Rider Training Program Coordinator again.
